BAGUIO City: Sofia Loren Deliu

Describe your childhood/growing years (8-13 years old)
Growing up to a communist oriented Romanian father and a conservative Filipina mother, this gave me the privilege of enjoying the best sides of both countries, especially the different culture and traditions. My childhood years were very challenging and I can say that at a young age, my parents were already successful in the indoctrination of strength and confidence in me. I was a jolly fearless little girl back then.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?
If there’s one thing I have learned during my childhood years, it would be being strong at a young age. I was able to handle failures, pain, disappointments, embarrassments and I was never discouraged. I always believed that everything happens for a reason that is why I always choose to be happy, until today.

Most memorable moment
My most memorable moment would be during my graduation at the Philippine National Police Academy. That day marked my transformation from a permissive civilian; I was molded to become a strong, independent, and refined woman who is ready to die for our country. It was also that moment when my family, friends, and loved ones were present all at the same time showing their love and support.

What is the most unusual thing you've ever done?
Training in the Philippine Narional Police Academy! I was physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually challenged!

What is your ambition in life?
To help and to serve other people, my beloved country and the world as well. In addition, I want to be that woman inspiring other women that all things are possible and that gender is never a hindrance to whatever they would want to pursuit.

Why do you want to be Miss Philippines Earth?
I want to be the Miss Philippines Earth 2015 representing the Philippines because in line with my duty, which is to serve and protect, I will be able to actively implement environmental activities that involve the different stakeholders (national and international) in the community. There should be someone who will be able to win the hearts and minds of the people to cooperate with us in combating environmental degradation and that person would be me.

What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose this?
As people become more vigilant about the state of the environment, as a police officer, I would like to strengthen the enforcement of the existing environmental laws and encourage active participation of the people in environmental protection activities. The people should be fully aware of what are allowed and what are prohibited in relation to the actions that they are going to take towards the environment. Offenders of environmental laws shall be held accountable.
